About the Author

N J Dorrian is the author of ten novels and two novellas of mystery, romance and historical adventure fiction written under various pen names.

“From my first reading of Wuthering Heights at the age of thirteen, I became a lifelong fan, re-reading the novel numerous times over thirty years. The novel has had a huge influence on my writing, introducing mystery and gothic elements in my contemporary fiction. After 20 years of writing, I was suddenly possessed with the idea of writing about what happened between Cathy and Heathcliff on the moors of Yorkshire. I couldn’t sleep for three days, I was so excited. I wrote the first instalment of this eight-part series in a matter of weeks. Mixing fact and fiction, I’ve tried to come up with a way to relate these imaginary tales while honouring Emily Brontë’s original work.

“There is a story about Emily as reported by an old man who lived in their village. He remembered seeing her coming along the lane that led out of the kirkyard with a look of almost holy rapture on her face. This description and the fact that she spent many hours alone on the moor inspired my version of her interior life and character.

“Emily Brontë was misunderstood and her novel judged harshly when it was released. While she refused to answer her critics, the reviews caused her a great deal of pain. She was strange, introverted, living in her own world and out of step with her time. She is as fascinating to me as the work she left behind.”
